Okay, it's official : I'm obsessed. I'm
so obsessed with
The Hobbit movie. That happens to me every once in a while - I read a book, watch a movie, discover something new... and instantly fall in love. It happened 12 years ago with
The Lord of the Rings ; as some of you might already know, I've been a HUGE
LotR fan ever since I read the books and saw the first movie back in 2001. I was 11 years old... I'm 23 now, and I still love
LotR and anything Tolkien-related with the same passion.
So obviously, I couldn't
wait for
The Hobbit to be released. I was both very excited and very nervous - what if I was disappointed ? What if it wasn't nearly as good as the first trilogy, what if it somehow tarnished all the feelings I had for
LotR ? I was convinced that even if it was very cool, it just could
not be as good as
LotR - because to me,
LotR is simply perfect. But I went to see it anyway, of course.
And
OHMYGOD... As Thorin would say,
"I have never been so wrong in all my life". It WAS perfect. It WAS everything I'd hoped for, everything I had expected, and much more. The characters were all brilliant - the fangirl in me remembers thinking, before seeing the film :
"The Hobbit is going to lack some handsome, sexy characters like Aragorn, Éomer or Faramir...". And then Fíli, Kíli and Thorin walked through the door and I was like -
OK. Sorry I doubted you, Peter. (Thorin is definitely the new Aragorn. How can you
not love him ?) Anyway, brilliant characters, and brilliant villains too ; I'd never thought I'd love an Orc so much, but Azog changed that. Yes, I do love this big, evil, albino baddie.
And of course, there was wonderful music. Amazing landscapes and settings. A perfect mix of humour, adventure, danger, action and friendship. Great visual effects, great 3D, great 48 fps technique (yes, it's a real revolution !). I was delighted to see some of the
LotR characters again - I don't care if they weren't in the book, I just liked the little cameo by Frodo and the others very much. It was like seeing old friends again after a long time. I think I actually loved the movie more than I loved the book - it's the first time this
ever happens.
So... I've already seen
The Hobbit five times, four times in 3D/HFR and once in 2D/24fps. It's just one of these films I never get tired of - just like
LotR (I watch my Extended Edition DVDs at least five or six times a year. Multiply that by 12 and you'll get an idea of how many times I've seen the movies... I told you I was obsessed.
)
ANYWAY. The reason I'm telling you this here on dA is that of course, as an artist, my natural reaction to being obsessed is DRAWING. Drawing, painting sketching, doodling, even sometimes writing fanfiction (but that has nothing to do with DeviantArt, since I never post any texts here, only pictures.) So, for the past five weeks, I've filled an entire sketchbook with
Hobbit fanart, and more specifically Durin family fanart. Yes, Thorin and his nephews are obviously my favourite characters (MA.JES.TIC.
), I just can't help but drawing them again and again.
And since I was drawing Thorin, Thorin and more Thorin, I thought - why not make a short Thorin comic ? So that's what I' currently working on. The whole thing will be finished soon ; until then, I've uploaded a small preview here :
fav.me/d5s41va (Shirtless Thorin = FANSERVICE. You're most welcome.
). I'm working on some Fíli/Kíli fanart too. Much more to come !
Wow, that was a long journal. Thanks for reading, guys.
